Cracked Alloy Wheel Repair Gold Coast

Why Rim Rehab
for Repair?

A cracked alloy wheel is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately — a crack that's not repaired will grow, and a wheel failure at speed is dangerous. The good news is that many cracked alloy wheels can be repaired rather than replaced, using TIG welding by a specialist technician.

At Rim Rehab we assess every cracked wheel before agreeing to repair it. Not every crack is repairable — location, extent and previous repairs all matter. But where a repair is safe and appropriate, we TIG weld the crack, grind back and refinish the area, and pressure test before return. We only return wheels we're confident in.

How It Works

  • 1
Safety assessmentWe assess the crack — location, extent, wheel thickness and any previous repairs. We won't repair a wheel that shouldn't be repaired.

Note: To sustain a cracked rim requires a lot of force — a crack will always be accompanied by a buckle. Our specialised techs fix the buckle first and then repair the crack to ensure a long-lasting repair.
  • 2
Buckle repair firstOur specialised techs straighten and repair the buckle before addressing the crack — this is critical to a lasting result.
  • 3
TIG weld repairThe crack is then welded by our technician using the TIG process — precise, controlled, no unnecessary heat spread.
  • 4
Grind and shapeThe weld is ground back flush and shaped to restore the original profile.
  • 5
Pressure testThe repaired area is pressure tested to confirm the seal is sound.
  • 6
Cosmetic finishThe repair area is primed, colour-matched and clear coated to blend with the surrounding finish.
  • 7
Final inspection and returnWe inspect the finished repair and confirm it's safe before return.

Common Questions

Is a welded alloy wheel safe to use?

When repaired correctly by a specialist and within appropriate parameters, yes. We assess every crack before repairing and we won't return a wheel we're not confident in. We also pressure test every crack repair before cosmetic finishing.

What types of cracks can be repaired?

Radial cracks from the spoke to the rim, small hairline cracks from impacts, and cracks at the rim lip are all commonly repairable. Cracks through the spoke face or near bolt holes require more careful assessment.

How do I know if my wheel is cracked?

A crack will often cause a persistent slow puncture on one corner even with a new tyre. You may also see a visible line in the alloy face. Remove the tyre and inspect the inside of the rim — cracks often start on the inner face.

Is it worth repairing a cracked wheel vs replacing it?

For standard alloys, a repair is almost always cheaper. For rare, discontinued or high-end wheels, repair preserves a wheel that may be very difficult to replace. We'll give you an honest assessment of whether repair or replacement is the better call for your specific situation.

How long does crack repair take?

Typically 24–48 hours depending on extent. We'll confirm the turnaround at assessment.
